Main vectors of cooperation

The Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Belarus consistently develops mutually beneficial relations with forestry departments of other states and specialized international organizations.

Main vectors of international cooperation:

  • preservations of forests, sustainable forest management and multipurpose forest exploitation;
  • assessment of the state of forests and forest resources, forest monitoring;
  • protection of forests from fires, protection from pests and diseases;
  • maintaining of biological and landscape diversity of forests, their carbon-depositional and environment-forming role;
  • information technologies and aerospace methods in forestry;
  • scientific support of forestry, forestry education, development of labor resources;
  • development of the market of forest products and bioenergy.

In order to develop bilateral relations in the field of forestry, international treaties of an interdepartmental nature have been concluded with the Russian Federation, the Republic of Poland, the Slovak Republic, the Republic of Lithuania, the Republic of Latvia, the Kingdom of Sweden. Business ties with Kazakhstan, Ukraine, the Czech Republic and Venezuela.

The Republic of Belarus takes an active part in the work of the Intergovernmental Council for the Forestry Complex and Forestry of the CIS. The development and implementation of a coordinated policy in this area is relevant because of the high importance of forest resources in the economy of the Commonwealth member states and the dynamic development of the world market of forest products.

Cooperation with the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF), FAO, the UNECE Timber Committee, the European Forestry Process ("Forests of Europe"), the Program for the Approval of National Forest Certification Systems (PEFC), the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) is expanding. Contacts with such specialized international organizations as the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the International Technical Committee on Standardization ISO / TC 218 "Timber", the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) are expanding.

Within the framework of the Regional Program « Improving of Forest Law Enforcement and Governance » (FLEG) in the countries of the European Neighborhood Policy and in Russia", the FLEG Country Working Plan for the Republic of Belarus is being implemented.

Belarus participates in the implementation of the International Program for the Assessment and Monitoring of Air Pollution Effects on Forests (ICP-Forest). The National Center for Forest Monitoring, operating at the Unitary Enterprise "Belgosles", exchanges information with the international coordinating center of ICP.

Belarusian teams are traditional participants of the European Forest Cross Country Skiing (EFNS) and international competitions for fellers.
